Step Ahead Thoroughbred Retirement relies on the selfless giving of our donors to provide for the horses in our care. Your sponsorship increases our capacity to re-home and rehabilitate retired thoroughbred racehorses in need.

Your generosity allows SATB to continue successful rehabilitation and rehoming programs. On top of the high recurring costs of hay, feed, hoof & dental care, vaccines and deworming, our horses often need expensive diagnostics, treatments, surgeries, and emergency care.

Step Ahead's need for your support is as great as ever. The cost of care for each horse varies widely, depending on hay costs, fuel costs, diet, special needs and similar considerations.  On average, it costs anywhere from approximately $150 to $250 or more each month to provide basic care for each horse.  Our herd includes young thoroughbreds to seniors, and healthy horses to those in rehab.

We rely on donors to help cover these costs for our horses. Our Sponsor A Horse program is a monthly or annual donation you make in honor of a specific horse (“your” horse). You may sponsor any horse at any level or any amount you choose. If the actual costs of care for your horse are less than sponsor amounts, any excess will fund costs of care for other horses not sponsored. No donation is too small; every dollar counts!
